GENERAL POLICIES

If you are new and/or returning, please read the policies and procedures included here carefully before enrolling in the Extended Day programs. You and your child will be bound by these rules and procedures. 
 

New parents must create new accounts. To register please go to www.ps10.org/ExtendedDay. For our returning parents please do not create a new account, if necessary reset your password if you do not remember it.

Scholarships are available for families that qualify.

REGISTRATION

ALL PAST DUE BALANCES MUST BE PAID OR YOU WILL BE PLACED ON THE WAIT LIST FOR YOUR SELECTED CLASSES.

Cancellations and Schedule Revisions

We want your child to enjoy their selected classes. We realize, however, not every choice is a successful fit. We will try to accommodate your needs within the first two weeks of the session if there is space available. If space is not available we will provide a full refund of your deposit or full payment if class is cancelled within the first two weeks of the session. Up to the halfway mark of any class, we will refund 35% of payments made. We cannot provide any refund after the halfway mark of the program as vendor contracts are set and vendors must be paid. Please be considerate and timely with these requests. All requests for changes must be in writing and emailed to info@ps10extendedday.com.

Pick Up & Dismissal

​We have two main dismissal times: 4:25pm to 4:35pm (after enrichment classes) or 5:45pm to 6:00pm in the auditorium. When you are picking up your child, you must sign out with the Program Manager. Please do not take your child from the playground or any other part of the building. Please do not enter the classrooms or building without first checking with security and the Program Manager. If you are picking up at a time different from the dismissal times listed above, please see the Program Manager and they will be happy to bring your child to you. This is mandatory for the safety and security of our students. Only people on the “authorized for pick up list” may pick up your child. You may update your pickup list online in your registration account at any time. If someone who is not authorized by a parent or legal guardian attempts to pick up a student, the student will not be released to that person until written authorization is received.   You must also advise us if there is an individual that is legally not allowed access to your child.  We do not have access to school records, you must provide this information to the Extended Day program at the same time that you inform the school administration.
If you are late to pick up your child you will be invoiced a late pick up fee. Please do not give cash directly to the Extended Day staff; you will receive a separate invoice for the charge.
Only children in the fifth grade are permitted to walk home on their own and only upon written notice to the PS10 Extended Day Program. Students may leave the program at 4:20 after the completion of their enrichment class, or at 5:45/the end of the Extended Day program. Dismissal time will be chosen at the time of registration. Students may not leave at any other time and must sign out with the Extended Day Program Manager before leaving the building. 

 

Late Pick Ups

​After 6:15pm you will be charged a late fee of $25. For every minute after 6:20pm, you will be charged $1. If you are going to be late, please call the Extended Day Director (late fees still apply). After 7:00pm, if no other arrangements have been made, we reserve the right to take your child to the safety of a police precinct. If you are late more than 3 times in one month, we reserve the right to ask your family to leave the program.

Lost & Found

We recommend that you put your child’s name on all of their items with a label or permanent marker so that lost items can be returned to them if found. All unclaimed items are put in the bins at the sign out table marked “Lost and Found.” As you leave the program, please check your child’s backpack to make sure that he or she has all clothing, lunch boxes, homework and personal items. Please do not bring toys or electronics; we are not responsible for lost or broken toys/electronics.

 

Emergency Information

​The registration form contains space for emergency contact information as well as space for authorized pick-up people. It is very important to give us your contact phone number, and the phone number of a non-parent / guardian that we can reach if we have difficulty reaching you.  Your child will NOT be released to anyone whose name does not appear on their form unless you provide written consent authorizing change of pick up. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Please be advised that the PTA Extended Day program does not have access to the PS10 DOE Blue Cards in the school main office. All Extended Day contact information must be in the Extended Day registration system.

 

Injury / Illness & Covid - 19

​Please do not send your child to the Extended Day program if they have a contagious illness and/or fever within 24 hours. The Extended Day staff may administer only basic first aid such as ice and band-aids, we will not administer medication of any kind. In case of serious injury or illness, a parent or emergency contact person will be called to pick up the child. Accident reports will be completed for any accidents/injuries that occur during extended day hours, which we will keep on file. Teachers and co-teachers are instructed to report all accidents/injuries to the Director and to complete an accident report. Either the Director or Program Manager will inform the parents about the injury. In the case that a parent or emergency contact cannot be reached, the Extended Day program will escort the student to the closest hospital if deemed necessary. 

Emergency Medical Protocol (Epi-pen / Inhaler)

Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the P.S. 10 PTA Extended Day about a child with severe allergies and/or Asthma. Extended Day strives to be a NUT-FREE environment, please do not send your child with any nut products for snack.
Students that have been prescribed an epipen or an inhaler by their medical provider may carry the epipen or inhaler, if the student is determined by the medical provider to be self-directed and able to self-administer medication. The epipen or inhaler must be in the original container, and be clearly labeled with the child’s full name, prescriber’s name, directions for administration and expiration date. Parents are advised that Extended Day does not have access to medical staff in either  the P.S. 10 or K280 buildings; our core staff has basic first aid training.

 

Snacks and Water Bottles

You must provide a snack and water bottle for your child. Please place one in their backpack each day they attend Extended Day. If you pack a lunch for your child, please do not put the snack in with the lunch. Your child just might eat it at lunch! Please be mindful that the Extended Day programs are  NUT-FREE environments. Please label all of your child's items and encourage them not to share snacks.

 

School Closings
If school is closed due to an emergency (such as fire, snow day, etc.) the PTA Extended Day will also be closed. On occasion the NYC DOE may cancel all after school activities in NYC public school buildings, the PTA Extended Day operates under a DOE Permit. If after school activities are cancelled, Extended Day will also be cancelled. No refunds or adjustments will be made for unexpected school closings due to emergencies. 

 

Conduct and Behavior
We may experience a behavioral problem that goes beyond our Code of Conduct. If a behavioral problem occurs, the Director will work with the child and will reach out to the family when necessary. Line Staff will notify the Director of the behavior problem, ie. a child is continuously disrupting an activity, refuses to wear their mask or abide by our Covid guidelines, and/or harms another person or property, and efforts such as time-out and restricted playtime have been ineffective. The Director will then contact the child’s family and report the problem. If problems persist, the Director will consult with the Extended Day Committee and the child may be removed from the program. If this occurs, the family will be reimbursed for the balance of the programs for which they have paid. The Extended Day staff is responsible for providing a positive experience for ALL children in our care. We ask that you review our Code of Conduct with your child and explain that the consequence of misbehavior could be dismissal from the Extended Day Program.

Students with IEP’s

The PS10 PTA Extended Day Program is a fully inclusive program; no PS10 child is excluded from enrollment. Please be advised that our Program is run with a 10:1 ratio of staff to students; we do not have one-to-one paras or staff available. If you have any concern regarding your child’s ability to manage in this setting, we encourage you to speak with the Director prior to registration.

 

Insurance​ 

PS10 PTA Extended Day carries our own insurance policy that covers the school, its staff and students for the hours that the Extended Day program is in operation. By registering your child(ren) in our program, you are releasing the PS10 PTA, its officers, volunteers, employees, contractors, agents and staff from any liability arising from their participation in the Extended Day program. Parents are required to sign a liability waiver at enrollment.

Staff Expectations and Goals

​The following goals and responsibilities have been made priorities for all employees of the PS10 PTA Extended Day Program: Our first responsibility is to ensure the health and safety of the children in our charge. We will always be alert to any safety hazards, including inattentiveness and poor supervision of the children. We will be responsible for the positive development of each child, helping the children in our program with their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development as well as encouraging good habits and positive attitudes. We will ensure that families feel confident and informed about their child’s care. Our school is proud of its inclusive and diverse environment. We will encourage acceptance of different lifestyles and ethnic backgrounds and cultures among our students, staff and families. We encourage Extended Day teachers to discuss any problems or concerns with families directly, particularly as they relate to family/teacher communication and the child’s well being. We have a serious responsibility towards the program, the school, our colleagues and the families we serve. We understand the need to work together in order to ensure the program’s success.

FEES


 

Registration Fee
There is an annual non-refundable registration fee of $75 per family, which covers your child(ren) for the entire school year or any portion thereof. This is an administrative fee. It does not cover, nor can it be applied to the program fee.

 

Program fees are calculated on a per day basis. When you register your student, you are agreeing to sign up and pay for the entire duration of the term. Term lengths are 12 weeks.  There are no refunds if you cancel your enrollment past the halfway mark of the session.  Please see the cancellation policy for additional information

These fees include a discount of 5% for students participating four days a week and 10% for students participating five days a week.

 

Sibling Discounts
There is a 5% discount for each additional child 

 

Payment Policies
Payments for current invoices for attendance in the Extended Day program are due by the 5th of every month.  Credit cards on file will be automatically charged by the 5th of the month.

If you are experiencing temporary financial hardship and need to discuss payment options, you may contact the Extended Day Program Director to discuss arrangements.

 

No refunds or adjustments will be made to the monthly billing rate for incidental absences including, but not limited to, illness, medical appointments, or family vacation.

 

If the Extended Day Program finds it necessary to terminate your child’s participation in the Extended Day Program, you will be responsible for payment for the days or weeks your child attended prior to the termination date.

 

Additional fees, including but not limited to late pick-up fees and late payment fees, will be applied if necessary.  Please be aware that some classes carry an additional materials fee.

 

The PS10 Extended Day program reserves the right to cancel your child’s enrollment in its entirety if payment is not received in a timely manner.

 

In order to register, any outstanding balance owed must be paid in full, this includes balances from prior years. Registrations accompanied by outstanding balance payments will be held and not processed until the payment has cleared.

There is a 2.2% credit card fee to cover credit card transactions.

 

Late  Payment Fee
If you have not paid the entire fee up front, each payment is due by the 1st of the month and a late fee will be applied after the 6th of the month. Failure to pay on time will result in a $15 late payment fee and may result in your child’s dismissal from the Extended Day Program. We cannot allow your child to participate in the program if you have not paid.

Returned Check  Fee
You will be charged $25.00 for any checks that are returned for any reason. After bouncing a check, you will be asked to make future payments by credit card or money order. For questions regarding billing please contact the Operations Manager at operations@ ps10extendedday.com.

Financial Aid
We recognize many of our families are currently experiencing financial hardship. The PS10 PTA Extended Day Program and the PS10 PTA would like to ensure that all families who would like to participate in Extended Day offerings are able to do so.  A sliding scale discount off the total base tuition is available to families who need it. Discounts range from 15% - 85%.

Application approval is at the sole discretion of the PS10 Extended Day Committee.

Daily Schedule
Our Program runs from school dismissal to 6:00pm, every day that school is in session for a full day.

PS10 Schedule
At 2:40pm your child’s classroom teacher will dismiss children attending the Extended Day program to the cafeteria where they will be directed to tables for the snack you have provided for your child. Tables are divided by grade level and class choice. Enrichment classes run from 3:15 to 4:15 pm. At 5:45pm all groups assemble in the auditorium for dismissal.

Is Extended Day open when school is closed for school vacations, half-days, weather or other emergencies?

Our program is open for a limited number of half days and holdiays, please check our calender

 

Will I be notified if my child’s class is cancelled?
If we receive enough notice from the instructor, we will be able to notify parents, but unfortunately that’s not always the case. All outdoor classes are subject to weather conditions so please assume that in bad weather outdoor classes will be held indoors. If a class is cancelled, the daily rate still applies and no refund will be given for attendance in the program on the day a class is cancelled. 

 

Can my child bring a cell phone or electronic game to Extended Day?

Consistent with school rules, children are not allowed to use electronic games or cell phones during Extended Day.
